Eligibility Criteria for Migration to Australia
Multiple factors are considered by the DIBP while judging a candidate for migration to the country. These include academic achievements, past job experience & profiles, language skills and of course age and other professional skills. Your skill & job profile should be featured in SOL list.
The eligibility for PR visas status are based on your immigration points which you score on various factors and a score above 65 is required to be at least eligible.

Let’s look at each category in detail.
The upper limit of 30 points in age category can be scored if the age of the candidate is 25-32. Students or experienced professionals in the age group of 18-24 & 33-39 receive 25 immigration points. 40-50 is the least preferred age group with only 15 points reward.
Language Skills (English)
The upper limit is 20 points in this category.
Zero points are rewarded to a person just at a “competent” level in English Proficiency which means just a band 6 score in IELTS which is considered just an average score and is not enough.
To get a “superior” rating and 20 immigration points one needs to score a band 8 score in IELTS exam and also above average score in other similar exams like TOEFL, CAE etc.
This a very important factor and the maximum is around 20 points in this category :

- The PhD degree holder is most preferred among all and receives a score of 20 points.
- Whereas a UG or PG degree holder receives 15 points.
- If the candidate has a diploma from a university in Australia or some certifications, he/she may receive up to 10 points.
- You will receive an additional 5 points if you have any specialized niche qualifications.
Additional points for spouse
If the spouse of the applicant has some professional skills along with being competent in English language or is a Citizen (of Australia) or possesses a PR visa, the candidate receives an additional 10 points.
Only 5 points are given if the applicant’s spouse has only Language Proficiency as the only skill.
You may receive 5 additional immigration points if have the 190 visa status or study in a local regional area or in 1+ year of a professional skill program.
